Lilian's first day of kindergarten
Posted by: Niki on 2010-09-01 at 22:34:05
I'm not sure if anyone reads this anymore, since I haven't posted in a really long time. But, I still want to post because I want to be able to read this in the future. Lilian, who would like to be called Lilian instead of Lili, started Kindergarten today. Because we live close enough (about 3/4 mile) she is considered a walker, and therefore does not ride a bus. Jack, Michael, Austen, Desmond and I walked her to school. She was a bit hesitant to go inside without me. But the teacher had said that they wanted the kids to go in without the parents. But after a bit of encouragement she went in. Of course I cried. I'm just so happy and proud of my little girl. She is growing up and getting so big.
Tonight at bedtime she talked about school a lot. She told me everything she could think of and kept wanting to keep talking after that. She said she loves school. I so hope that she will always have a love of school. I know I love to learn and take classes, so hopefully my girl will be the same way.
Austen starts preschool in a week and a half, and Lilian will also be doing preschool again. Our school district's kindergarten is only half days and Lilian goes in the afternoon. Austen goes to preschool in the mornings and after some discussion we decided that if she wanted to do preschool again she could. The preschool that the kids go to is awesome and any exposure to it is greatly helpful in their social development, so it is worth it to us to let her go to that 2 mornings a week.
5 years and 15 months

Lili had her 5 year check up on Monday. She was 44" (80%) and 41 pounds (60%).
Desmond had his 15 month check up at the same time. He was 32.25" (80%) and 21 lbs 12 oz (15%). His head was 19.5". He had 5 teeth coming in all at once, the poor guy.
We had Lili's birthday party last weekend. Even with the allergies, the kids had a great time. Her theme was flowers and Michael and I made her a flower cake and had lots of flowers strewn about the house.
Sorry for not posting here more. Michael and I post very regularly on twitter and facebook (they are usually the exact same post, so you only need to read one of those). And our posts often include pictures (mine of the kids and Michael's are of things he finds funny). So if you don't follow us on either twitter or facebook, now is the time to start doing it. You don't need a twitter account to see our updates, but you do if you choose to use facebook.

Here is the music that was playing at my Uncle Bill's Visitation last week. You will need iTunes to download any of the songs.
Desmond 1 year check up
Posted by: Niki on 2010-01-16 at 10:08:35
Desmond had his one year check up on Friday. H weighed 21lbs 3 oz (25%), his height is 31 1/4 inches (90%) and his head is 19 1/4 inches.
He has gotten so cute lately. Of course he has always been cute. But sometimes when you sing to him, he sings along with you. And yesterday he was dancing to some music.
Love that boy!
Happy birthday Desmond

My little guy turned one today. He is just getting so big. About a week and a half ago he moved out of our bed and into austen's. It has been a bit rough, with some nights better than others.
He is walking a lot. He still crawls a bunch but he can cross a room on his feet without falling down. Today he started giving me kisses when I ask.
It is so neat watching him play with lili and Austen. Sometimes he will growl and then tackle you. A trick I'm sure he learned from his brother.
That's all I can think of for now.
He's walking

This morning Desmond took one step without holding on to anything. And just now he took 3 steps without holding on.
Austen's 3 year check up

Austen had his 3 year check up last Friday. He was 39" (83%) tall and weighed 36 3/4 (90%). He will be passing his sister soon on weight - Lili weighs about 39.
Austen is 3

Today is Austen's birthday.
Happy birthday my little guy. I can't believe you are 3 already.
So far his gifts include: Lego pirate ship (that was mine when I was little), an iPod (that was Michael's before he upgraded), Bob the Builder legos and some books. He also got a couple of signed baseballs (Lou Brock & Bob Gibson) from Val and Gere. And Lego Darth Vadar's tie fighter from Grammie Jacs. Grandma and Grandpa Ducy got him a sander kit (a toy one) and some $. I'd say he is making out pretty nicely this year. I love that some of his gifts have been recycled.
He was a bit cranky this morning, but is doing much better now. I attribute the crankiness to the end of being sick. He was sick Monday and Tuesday and then yesterday he was feeling much better, but still on the weak side. Today he was well enough to go to preschool, but he wasn't his old self. This afternoon, though, after lunch we have seen definite improvement in his mood. It's good to have my boy back.
